Adam Johnston
A Scottish designer based between Barcelona and the UK, his practice is deeply influenced by a rich international background. His approach is defined by thoughtful simplicity, shaped by the diverse cultures he has encountered throughout his life. This global perspective allows him to merge different design sensibilities into a cohesive and reflective body of work. With a strong interest in both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary industrial processes, he creates everyday objects, furniture, and interiors with sensitivity and purpose.
In Volume I of SKLD Studio, he presents Umbra, a collection that represents the confluence of tradition, craft, and design. Inspired by vernacular woven chairs and stick chairs from various regions of the British Isles, Umbra combines teak structures with woven fibers to create a contemporary collection of outdoor furniture that reinterprets rural imagery through a modern lens.
